We know that applications in a network environment don't always work the way
they should. The reasons why are as follows: 1. Bandwidth
problem
The gap between
bandwidth demand and WAN capacity results in poor performance of
mission-critical applications, which are characterized by excessive transmission
latency, data packet loss, and frustrated network users. The usual solution to
this problem is to upgrade bandwidth from Telcos, which requires increased
recurring monthly payments for the extra bandwidth.
2. Latency problem
However, even extra bandwidth still cannot deliver
data efficiently due to the long latency of WAN, leading to poor network
application performance. This is because the current network transportation
protocol TCP and various network application protocols like file sharing
protocol (CIFS) cannot utilize available bandwidth efficiently.
